Four simple steps - to success for you and caries-free teeth for your patients.

1. Cleaning

When starting treatment, we recommend that you first clean the surface of the tooth thoroughly - using KaVo PROPHYflex.

2. Measurement

To check up on the success of the treatment, measure the affected tooth using KaVo DIAGNOdent. Choose a longer or shorter treatment of ozone on the basis of the levels measured.

3. Treatment

Depending on the findings, use KaVo HealOzone to apply a controlled dose of ozone to the diseased area. You can set the treatment time to between 10 and 40 seconds.

4. Remineralisation solution

Encourages immediate remineralisation of the tooth.

Clinical studies (excerpt)

K. C. Huth, E. Paschos, K. Brand, R. Hickel: Effect of ozone on non-cavitated fissure carious lesions in permanent molars - A controlled prospective clinical study. Accepted in Am. J. Dent.
A randomised, controlled clinical study was completed to investigate the effect of gaseous ozone (applied once for 40s without using an additional remineralisation solution) on initial, non-cavitated fissure caries, taking into consideration the individual caries risk in comparison to untreated control lesions. Lesions were indirectly monitored (for progress or regression) using the DIAGNOdent laser fluorescence monitoring system. After a period of three months, there was significantly greater lesion regression or less lesion progression of the ozone-treated lesions compared to the untreated control lesions - especially in patients with a high caries risk. For the overall collective of the study, no significant difference was detected.

S. Kneist, R. Heinrich, W. Künzel: Microbial colonisation of carious progression stages in the dentine of human teeth - a controlled therapeutic study.
Zbl. Bakteriol. Hyg. A270(1989)385-395.

In caries profunda, after caries excavation in the hard cavity floors up to 102 – 103 germs were still detectable in sixty percent of cases (Kneist et al. 1989). These germs were aktinomycetes, lactobacilli and mutans-streptococci. According to preliminary results of an in-vitro study by Kneist and Glockmann (FSU Jena), HealOzone is able to eliminate the resulting germ count of aktinomycetes, lactobacilli and mutans-streptococci on the cavity floor.
