DEXIS™ CariVu™

Caries Detection

Compact, Portable Caries Detection Device

DEXIS™ CariVu™ is a compact, portable caries detection device that uses patented transillumination technology to support the identification of occlusal, interproximal and recurrent carious lesions and cracks.

CariVu continues the long DEXIS tradition of providing intuitive, easy-to-use diagnostic tools for the dental community.

What makes CariVu unique?
  • Uses transillumination technology that makes enamel appear transparent while porous lesions trap and absorb light
  • Allows the clinician to see through the tooth, exposing its structure and the development of any carious lesions
  • CariVu images read like familiar X-ray images
  • Uses non-ionizing radiation which is ideal for children, pregnant women and patients who are X‑ray averse

Zero Radiation

Safe, No-dose Alternative

CariVu has filled the gap for children, pregnant women and others who may not be able to have traditional X-rays taken. For those patients who are X-ray averse, CariVu is an alternative diagnostic method with which they can be comfortable with.

Transillumination image

Transillumination Imaging Technology

By hugging the tooth and bathing it in safe, near-infrared light, the CariVu transillumination technology makes the enamel appear transparent while porous lesions trap and absorb the light. This allows the clinician to see through the tooth, exposing any carious lesions.

99% accuracy

Early Caries Detection

Since transillumination can show lesions in the beginning stages, using CariVu during routine prophylaxis can aid the dental practitioner in identifying questionable areas early on and decide on a course of preventive care.

*Proximal dentin lesions represented in CariVu images correlate to the actual condition in the tooth with 99% accuracy. Study data on file. CariVu is a diagnostic aid for the detection of open or incipient carious lesions above the gingiva and for monitoring the progress of such lesions. Indications for use for CariVu are detection of: mooth surface caries, occlusal carries, proximal caries, initial caries, secondary caries, and cracks.

CariVu Screens

Early Detection for Caries Prevention

CariVu images read like familiar X-ray images — lesions will appear as dark areas. Since transillumination can show lesions in the beginning stages, using CariVu during routine prophylaxis can aid the dental practitioner in identifying questionable areas early on and decide on a course of preventive care.

CariVu Time Comparison

Easy to Use for Any Practitioner

CariVu provides an edge over fluorescent imaging technologies in that there is no need to clean the tooth of bacteria, calibrate the device or become versed in the meaning of multiple color codes or numeric indicators. The device also comes with two tip sizes, one large size for adults and one small size for children, which are easy to attach and remove.

Carivu the Ultimate Companion Tool

DEXIS Software Integration Makes the CariVu Workflow Simple

CariVu seamlessly integrates with the DEXIS Software, making it easy to compare the CariVu image in the current session with its historical and intraoral X-ray and camera counterparts. When used together, a radiograph, a transilluminated image, and an intraoral photo, CariVu is your ultimate companion tool for caries detection, providing a comprehensive picture of the health of a patient’s tooth.
