NOMAD Pro 2 Commitment to Safety

Commitment to Safety

To keep operators safe, the KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 has two highly devised shielding features. A unique, lead-impregnated acrylic shield protects the operator from direct and scatter radiation while an internal proprietary housing encases the X-ray tube and backscatter shield to block radiation leakage.

When the KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 is used as directed, these shields create a “safe zone” for the operator throughout the acquisition process.

NOMAD Pro 2 Commitment to Quality

Focus on Image Quality

We know that you want to render the best diagnosis to your patients, and the best diagnosis starts with the best image quality. You can depend on the KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 to help produce sharp, clear radiographic images. KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 utilizes the latest in X-ray technology — a 0.4 mm focal spot plus a 60kV DC X-ray generator that consistently delivers exacting, repeatable exposures.

NOMAD Pro 2 Efficient Workflow

Efficient Workflow Advantages

Freedom is in your hands with the ability to take an X-ray anywhere out of the office and in any treatment area in your practice. Portable and easy to use, the KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 allows you to move freely between operatories and to remain chairside when it really counts.

This innovatively designed unit allows you to stay with your patient during the procedure, especially with fearful or challenging patients.  No more leaving the room to trigger exposures only to return to find that the X-ray head has drifted or that your patient has moved necessitating a retake of the radiograph. From changing image capture settings to exposing the X-ray, you can be there by your patient’s side creating a more positive radiographic experience for you both.

NOMAD PRO 2 - Cost Savings

Cost Savings and Simple Installation

With KaVo NOMAD Pro 2, there’s an immediate cost savings over multiple operatories that would need wall-mount units. With your new handheld system, you can save on the cost and time of special construction, wiring, and installation. Safety literature and training videos are provided, and your KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 is ready for use right out of the box.

KAVO NOMAD PRO 2 leading battery technology

Industry-Leading Battery Technology

Incorporating 30% more capacity and longer life than in previous models, the KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 utilizes premier battery technology that provides a more consistently reliable, long-lasting battery. This higher-capacity battery uses technology commonly employed in industrial power tools and is designed to keep pace with the demands of busy dental practices and workflow even in heavy usage. The battery cells, similar to those used in electric vehicles, are constructed of the latest advanced materials. The battery charger has been newly developed for maximum charging power to yield the most efficient use of the system.

KaVo NOMAD PRO 2 Ergonomic Design

Innovative Ergonomic Design

Ergonomics was foremost in the redesign of the new KaVo NOMAD Pro 2. Based on customer feedback and a review of popular power tools design, the engineering team created a more secure grip for users with smaller hands. The handle base is sized appropriately so that it is more stable in your palm, while the entire handle’s circumference is proportionately designed for a better fit of the human hand. The slight tapered shape from the top allows the handle to not only attain this better fit; it also becomes more steady and comfortable in your hands. The unit overall is much more balanced and is easily cradled to allow the operator to quickly make setting adjustments and changes sensor position.

KaVo NOMAD PRO 2 Interface

Intuitive User Interface

The KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 touchpad interface has a new look and feel. You can easily adhere to ALARA and select the right dose for your patient’s particular need by choosing from a variety of easy-to-understand, graphic settings: Two body types; film, PSP or sensor modality; tooth presets that automatically adjust for dose; or you can elect to manually set exposure.

Safe and Effective Handheld X-ray Technology*

NOMAD Pro 2 Technical Drawing

Commitment to Safety

We understand that safety is paramount when clinicians treat their patients. To keep operators safe, the KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 has two highly devised shielding features.

Internal Shielding

Due to its innovative internal shielding, KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 is safe for the operator to use as a handheld device. The X-ray tube and collimator are completely enclosed in a proprietary blend of metals that are designed to block radiation leakage.

Backscatter Shield

Most of the low-dose radiation generated by the KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 will be absorbed by the patient, but in the case of backscatter radiation, the leaded polymer shield at the front of the device provides the operator with a zone of protection.

*The KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 is cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Regulatory requirements can vary by jurisdiction. Please contact your regional regulatory agency for radiation requirements in your area. For indications for use, please visit www.kavo.com/en-us/ifu.

Why should my office buy a KaVo NOMAD Pro 2?

NOMAD is the world’s most popular handheld X-ray device. Are NOMAD products safe?

Numerous studies have confirmed that NOMAD X-ray systems, when used properly, are safe for use in the dental office.

Special internal and external backscatter shielding protects the operator, while true DC voltage and a controlled focal spot minimize the exposure to the patient. For more information on these studies, please contact KaVo Imaging Account Management at kavocomplete@kavokerr.com.

How do I get training on how to use NOMAD?

A CD, which includes training information, an electronic version of the operator manual, and other important information, is included in the box with every NOMAD device. Please ensure that all operators complete NOMAD training by reading the operator manual, viewing the information on the training CD, and then taking and passing the test prior to use. Individual states may have specific requirements for recording and maintaining training records. For details, check with your dealer or the state radiation control office.

Where are NOMAD products approved for use?

Within the United States, the KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 and its predecessors have received 510(k) clearance by the FDA. Individual states may have specific requirements for registration and use. For details, check with your dealer or the state radiation control office.

For use outside of the U.S., please contact NOMAD Support at NOMADsupport@kavo.com.

What is the warranty on the NOMAD, and how do I register my product?

All KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 devices sold in the United States come with a 1-year manufacturer warranty.  To register your device with us, either mail in the warranty card that was provided with your unit, call KaVo Imaging Account Management at 1-866-340-5522 or register online at kavo.com/nomad-protection-plan.

How do I register my product with my state?

The owner is responsible for registering their device with their state. Because state registration processes for handheld X-ray devices can vary, please check with your state radiation control office for the specific process

How do I properly clean and disinfect the NOMAD?

We recommend using CaviCide™ or CaviWipes™. Do not spray CaviCide directly onto the NOMAD. Instead, spray the liquid onto a clean, dry cloth and then wipe the unit. Please refer to the manual for further details.

Do I need to calibrate the NOMAD?

Your NOMAD was calibrated as a part of the manufacturing process and is provided “ready to go” out of the box.

Periodic calibration requirements for handheld dental X-ray devices vary by state. For specific details for your device, please check with your state radiation control office. When calibration of your NOMAD is required, please call KaVo Imaging Account Management at 1-866-340-5522 to schedule your calibration appointment.

What personal protective measures should I take when using the NOMAD?

When used properly, NOMAD devices require no additional protection, such as a vest or apron, unless mandated by your state. Independent studies have shown that under proper use, operator exposure is one one-hundredth of the annual maximum set by the government for occupational safety.

Individual states may vary in their approval and requirements for handheld X-ray devices, including storage, use of protective vests, and dosimetry badges or rings. Check with your dealer or the state radiation control office for details. Bystanders should maintain at least 6 feet from the X-ray by following local radiation safety regulations to avoid undue exposure.

What imaging media can be used?

NOMAD devices work equally well with film, digital media and phosphor plates. Exposure times will vary with the media used.

Who do I call if I experience an issue with my NOMAD?

For questions and concerns, please contact KaVo Imaging Account Management at 1-866-340-5522. To start, the account manager will ask you for your information as well as the serial number of your NOMAD which is located on the underside of the tubehead.

Is there a recommended time interval when I should get my product serviced?

Different states may have periodic requirements for servicing and/or calibration. For details specific to your device, please check with your state radiation control office. When servicing or calibration of your NOMAD is required, please call KaVo Imaging Account Management at 1-866-340-5522 to schedule service.
