The smart performance of KaVo Intraoral X-ray machines, Imaging Plate Systems, dental X-ray Sensors and Intraoral Camera
When it comes to oral health, clinical examinations, patient consultation and the use of sophisticated intraoral x-ray tools lay the foundation for accurate diagnosis and optimal patient care. Intraoral x-ray can provide extremely valuable information on
progression of the interproximal caries,
reveal secondary caries under the fillings,
periapical inflammatory status
and much more.
When it comes to intraoral x-ray, your intraoral x-ray machine is your foundation. Without a system that meets all your requirements, it doesn’t matter what type of medium you use to capture the image. While portable intraoral x-ray machines such as the Nomad Pro 2 are gaining popularity, wall-mounted intraoral x-ray machines are the standard intraoral x-ray device for most dental practices.
When discussing intraoral x-ray sensors, imaging plate systems and x-ray machines for intraoral radiography, one topic easily rises above all: the resolution in terms of lp/mm. Given that resolution is only ONE component of image quality it should not dominate our discussion but we need to understand our true needs for clinically valuable intraoral radiography.
Caries and inflammation both show in a shade of grey. A good contrast is far more important in order to be able to diagnose correctly. The x-ray system’s capability to bring forth even the slightest variations in radio-density is what enables you to diagnose accurately.
At KaVo we do not compromise contrast or clarity in intraoral x-ray to make resolution specifications look high. We care about true balanced image quality.
Dental digital sensors used to be the wave of the future, but dental digital sensors are becoming more and more the standard of care. Simply put, the intraoral x-ray sensor replaces film. The image goes directly to a computer where you and your patient can view it on the monitor.
You’ve bypassed the film development stage completely and have an image that you can enhance as needed and use as an educational tool with your patient. The main advantage of digital sensors is the immediate image availability which is especially helpful during endo treatments or implant surgery. You can easily share it with your lab or other dental and medical professionals as necessary to complete treatments and you can save it for comparison to radiographs you take later to monitor your patient’s dental health.
There are a few ways an intraoral x-ray sensor might connect to your computer. It may be x-ray sensor connects via a USB port that plugs directly into the computer or it may be via a capture box that acts as a conduit from the dental x-ray sensor to the computer. Since reliability, speed and image quality are our focus, a non-disturbable cable with gold-layered contacts and minimum signal conversion have been chosen for the KaVo GXS-700 intraoral sensor.
You often hear that x-ray sensors can be somewhat uncomfortable for patients because of their size and design. You know that patient comfort is important, so look for a dental x-ray sensor designed with that in mind. For example, the KaVo GXS-700 intraoral sensor has rounded corners and a smooth finish on all of its edges so that it can be accurately positioned and will comfortably fit the anatomical shape of the oral cavity.
