You’ve bypassed the film development stage completely and have an image that you can enhance as needed and use as an educational tool with your patient. The main advantage of digital sensors is the immediate image availability which is especially helpful during endo treatments or implant surgery. You can easily share it with your lab or other dental and medical professionals as necessary to complete treatments and you can save it for comparison to radiographs you take later to monitor your patient’s dental health.

There are a few ways an intraoral x-ray sensor might connect to your computer. It may be x-ray sensor connects via a USB port that plugs directly into the computer or it may be via a capture box that acts as a conduit from the dental x-ray sensor to the computer. You often hear that x-ray sensors can be somewhat uncomfortable for patients because of their size and design. You know that patient comfort is important, so look for a dental x-ray sensor designed with that in mind. For example, the KaVo GXS-700 intraoral sensor has rounded corners and a smooth finish on all of its edges so that it can be accurately positioned and will comfortably fit the anatomical shape of the oral cavity.
